about
The model and inspiration for this composition was an Åke Parmerud piece entitled "Grains of Voices". Along with that we were instructed to use the Fibonacci sequence as a firm basis for most of the pieces creation. How I decided to use the sequence was to use each integer as a sample edit ruler. Thus, each sample would become a formulated fibonacci sample. The style of sound and/or sample decided to focus on was the voice textures of individuals on automated answering machines. These samples were taken from the city of Peabody, Massachusetts, particularly focusing on closed businesses between the hours of 1am - 430am.. The main goal of this piece was to create a collage that could potentially replicate the activity of these answering machines that would correlate with the influx of simultaneous callers.
